Ask the Hairy Bikers answers
A lucky three of you have had your questions answered by The Hairy Bikers
Paul asked:
My wife has M.E. and so I do the cooking. I love it and try to be as adventurous as possible. The trouble is Jan also has coeliacs disease.
That in itself is no big problem. It is complicated though by her additional food allergies. She is totally allergic to the Nightshades ie. pepper, potato, tomato, aubergine, ginger, turmeric, etc.
I am now well stuck for ideas to make Jan even basic meals.
If you could offer any advise or ideas we would be really grateful.

Please be aware I am no Doctor and I am offering ideas. Someone who has such problems must be careful.
What about risotto, but experimenting with different types of rice, use Quinoa and buckwheat.
You can use meat to add to these ingredients but watch out for cheap meat or processed meat which may be pumped up with wheat based fillers. Nothing is better than a risotto made with love.
Hollie Wades asked:
What is your favourite homely meal?
The Hairy Bikers said:
Our favourite homely meal has most definitely got to be a shepherd’s pie! We don’t know anyone who doesn’t love it and make it at home! However we like it with a bit of a twist – If you use 1/3 haggis and 2/3 lamb mince it will give you that nice spicey, gamey flavour!
Alison Taylor asked:
What made you take up cookery as a career?
The Hairy Bikers said:
We have cooked since we were children and have had a passion for cookery throughout our adult life. We both worked in the TV industry and discovered that this would be a way of doing it full time! We are so lucky because we don’t have the pressure of owning a restaurant but we still get to do some amazing cooking – for example in our last series we were cooking against Michelin starred chefs and beating them!
Alison asked:
What are the tyres on the Tuono for you Si and Dave what’s the best thing you’ve cooked this year?
Si said:
The bike is an Aprilla Caponard and the tyres are Bridgestones! Great stuff!
What is the best thing you have cooked?
Dave said:
The best thing I’ve cooked this year are tempura quails eggs. Boil the eggs for 1 min 15 seconds, peel them really gently until all the shell is off. Roll them in celery salt and black pepper, dip in some tempura batter and then fry until golden. We cooked this in Argyll and Bute and it’s a great side dish for langoustines!
