Papillon Gin is lovingly created in our small distillery nestled within the Dartmoor National Park in Moretonhampstead. We are a husband and wife team distilling small batches in our copper alembic still.
Papillon Gin is our Dartmoor take on a London Dry. It is distilled with 17 different botanicals which gives it a complex, full flavour. These include our ‘Dartmoor botanicals’ which are fresh gorse flowers from the moor, rowan and hawthorn berries, chamomile, and Devon violets. Our violets are grown for us by a friend who has a field local to us on Dartmoor. We use fresh lemon and lime peel which gives it a citrus start, Cardamom and English Coriander for warm spice notes, and gorse, chamomile and violets for a floral finish.
Our 17 carefully chosen botanicals give our gin a depth of flavour that can be enjoyed neat over ice or will still come through with tonic.
We named it Papillon for the Pearl Bordered Fritillary, an endangered Dartmoor butterfly that feeds on wild violets and are donating 1% from every bottle sold to a local Butterfly Conservation project that protects this species.
We get our power through a 100% renewable supplier, use compostable cups at events and our gift packaging is made with cardboard, not plastic. The tamper seal is made from cellulose and will decompose in your compost bin. We try to keep our product as environmentally sensitive as possible.
Papillon Gin is made with fresh Dartmoor spring water from a nearby hill farm where the Pearl Bordered Fritillaries frequent. Nectar for both the gin drinker and the butterfly!
