Biography

Having spent almost ten years as Head Chef at the Michelin starred Simpsons in Edgbaston, Adam Bennett took over as Chef Director of The Cross at Kenilworth in September 2013. The Cross soon began receiving fantastic reviews from locals, food lovers and restaurant critics alike, within just 12 months the one time Inn received a Michelin star which it maintains today.

Adam wanted to become a Chef from an early age and during his college training spent time working in a busy family run Hotel Restaurant in Bavaria, Germany. The hotel had its own butchery and abattoir operations and the traditional Bavarian cuisine used really bold flavours and had great honesty. This gave the nineteen year old Adam a fantastic grounding for his future career.

Back in the UK, Adam worked at The Chase Hotel near Stratford Upon Avon, a kitchen with a team of seven chefs. Adam worked on all sections gaining a broad range of skills.

Adam went on to work under Anton Mosimann in the two star Michelin Terrace Restaurant at the Dorchester Hotel London. This was a revelation and proved to be a turning point in Adam’s approach. He went on to gain experience with restaurant Marc Meurin in Bethune, France and restaurant Guy Lassausaie in Lyon - both two star Michelin.

Adam uses techniques from many years spent in fine dining and creates dishes that are fitting for The Cross’ relaxed and accessible pub feel.

Passionate about food, flavours and provenance, Adam’s outstanding culinary skills elevate each ingredient to produce robust and perfectly balanced dishes and flavours.

He is to date the most successful UK candidate in the Bocuse d’Or – the world’s most prestigious chef competition, after securing fourth place and winning two prizes at the 2013 final in Lyon. During his preparation, Adam spent one week working in the three Michelin starred “Régis et Jacques Marcon” in France. His experience and culinary skills, led to Adam being chosen to cook alongside the Marcon team in the pop-up CHEF® restaurant to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the competition in January 2017.

He is also a National Chef of the year UK finalist and won the Midlands Chef of the year 2005.

Adam lives in Coventry with his wife Nibedita, a lecturer in risk management at the University of Leicester, and their daughter Asha.
